Wo hen lei

I’m tired. Tired from the hectic schedule of the past few days. Tired from getting only a few hours sleep every night for the past week. Tired of being tired.

And last but not least, tired of being made use of. How about digging out my money (well, actually it’s the money that I receive from both my housemates for their room rent) to pay for Izzi broadband (which costs RM1498 for the entire year), and then discovering that both my housemates can access the internet at home- and I can’t. How frustrating and disappointing is that? Well, they promised to share the cost, so we’ll see how it goes. I found out that it’s because my laptop’s USB port, the one which I plug the internet wire in, is spoilt. Which means I might have to get a new laptop.

Hello? I know my laptop is already almost 5 years old- but getting a new one isn’t such a simple process. How much does a laptop cost? Hey you and you- stop assuming that my mum has so much money. She has worked so hard to get to where she is today- all that she is now is entirely due to her struggles when she was younger and how she showed courage and determination to overcome all odds to become such a successful businesswoman today. Please do not take me and my mum for granted.

And you, who gave you the authority tell your friend that I have a printer that he could use? It is my printer after all, not yours. What would you have said about me if I hadn’t allowed him to use my printer? That I’m a spoilt, selfish brat?

I really want to be nice and helpful and kind to everyone, because that’s just how I am. I don’t like hurting anyone’s feelings. But then, where is the thin line between being nice and being too soft-hearted? If we’re too nice, we get taken advantage of.

I need to learn to stand up for myself and my own rights – without coming across as too harsh or abrasive. But then again, people tend to be intimidated of me without me having to raise my voice at them or show them my true colours.

p.s. On a side note, the IMU Charity Run was held this morning. I was tending the ‘Patch for Love’ stall, which sold hand-made stuff. It’s safe to say that it wasn’t the most popular stall at the carnival, mainly due to the cost of the stuff being sold. (Well, I didn’t set the price). But it was a good experience

eta :I'm so careless- I can't believe it myself. Last Friday, I left my pendrive in E-lab 2, and also the 'Medical Embryology' book which I borrowed in the library. Gah!! Luckily, someone found my pendrive and is going to return it to me tomorrow. When will I ever learn to be more careful?

The double standard against women

First off, I am a bit weary about this post....because it sort of contradicts my previous one. I was suddenly reminded that yes, men do make mistakes too, though it only involves a select few of them.

This morning, I read an article in the newspapers about a landlord who cheekily installed video cameras in the bathrooms of the house he rented out to 19 female students. The innocent students were to fulfill his evil desires without knowing it.
One of the students fortunately noticed the cameras and alerted a neighbour. The matter was reported to the police and the landlord was arrested.
Most probably, the landlord would be served a short sentence in jail, asked to pay a fine or given a harsh warning. The girls would have to live with the trauma of taking showers for the rest of their lives. And I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow, another report appears in the newspapers regarding a Minister critisizing the girls for not discovering the cameras earlier and for not dressing appropriately while showering.

A few months ago, a television camera mysteriously focused on the bottom of a female reporter while she was attending a press conference. And of course, the following day, a particular Minister blamed the reporter for not dressing appropriately. The cheeky cameraman got away unscathed.

Such is life. Women tend to get blamed for every misfortune bestowed upon them. The men who might have a part to play in it, get away easily.

When a girl gets raped, she takes the blame for not dressing appropriately and thus attracting unnecessary attention. The rapist escapes again, free to search for another victim. How about the case of Suzaily Mokhtar, who was brutally raped and murdered on a bus she boarded, although she was fully dressed from head to toe that fateful day? Is she to be blamed?

When a couple commit adultery....of course....you guessed it...the woman is to be blamed. Women who commit adultery would be under the worst sin possible, they should be very ashamed of themselves. HELLO?! Open up your narrow minds please. It takes TWO people, not ONE to commit adultery. But most people simply can't understand that. Adultery is always the woman's fault.
Very recently, the governenment is considering banning maids from China from entering the country, for fear that they would destroy more marriages.
Yes, of course, women are homewreckers. But of course, not a single word is being uttered about the husbands of the long suffering wives who just simply can't keep their eyes off this beautiful maid working in their house. *rolls eyes(

Of course women have to always take the blame for everything. This is the fact of life. Right?! RIGHT?!

Because we sinned first. Right?

Just a little rant.....

I have a little rant today.....

Well, you see....late last night, I was watching episode 5 of Survivor : Fiji for a 2nd time ( the first time, I didn't really concentrate on it).
And then it finally hit me....women have so many weaknesses about them.
What sparked that thought in me was when I witnessed how the 2 remaining women in the Ravu tribe ( the other 3 have been voted out in the first 3 episodes), Michelle and Rita were doing all this girly talk in front of the men of the tribe, and the men weren't that amused. And they weren't exactly helpful in challenges either.

But even worse were the women in the opposing tribe....Moto...(the tribe which had been winning all the challenges all the while and had almost everything in their camp). Lisi and Stacy mistreated the people who aren't in their alliance, not wanting to teach them how to make coffee. Their alliancemates, Alex and Edgardo weren't impressed with their snotty behaviour...because this might cause Dreamz and Cassandra, the mistreated people, to deflect to the other tribe once the merge occurs. But Lisi and Stacy just simply wouldn't listen. To quote Alex ' How can you be so stupid?!'

Right for those of you who do not follow Survivor....( I think that should be the majority of you :p) I'm just ranting about how women in this latest season of my favourite programme can be so silly.

Of course, not all women are less than smart. But I think this episode reflects the truth in this world.... women have many imperfections and weaknesses about them. We get easily jealous of each other, we get too emotional at times, we get irrational and insensible, we gossip and talk bad about others behind their backs, and of course the classic....we are physical weaker than men.
Men, on the other hand, are stronger physically, they know how to keep their emotions in check, they are caring (well, most of them anyways), they support each other. Just take a look at the world today....majority of the rulers in different countries are still men, men make the best chefs in the world, they make the best surgeons, they are computer geniuses, they make the best students, they are practically good at everything. Guys do not need to study that hard to achieve good grades. While girls have to study their assess off to achieve the results that they want.

Which is why men have to rule over women. Which is why women always need men in their lives and always have to depend on men. This is also why guys are comfortable hanging out with other guys....this is also why many girls also feel much more comfortable hanging out with guys rather than other girls and have many male friends.

What has been bugging me all this while is why God made one gender weaker than the other. Of course we need 2 different genders in this world to continue the human race, but why must one gender rule over the other?

We weren't there in the Garden of Eden when Eve decided to listen to the Devil and eat the apple. We didn't prompt her. We didn't ask to be her followers. We were born to be her followers without any input or choice of our own. Let me tell you something- if humans were allowed to actually choose their own genders before birth, there would be very few women living in this world.

I guess this is just something that I need to accept as a fact of life.

Don't get me wrong, I am perfectly fine being a girl, and haven't really suffered the consequences of being one....I just need answers about certain issues in life.
And I totally admit that I myself have all these imperfections that other women have.

No offense to the female readers, this is certainly NOT intended as a personal attack on any of you, I'm just referring to women in general.

p.s. I challenge you readers, both male and female alike to list down the strengths that women have. Because right now I can't really think of any.

p.p.s Am starting elective tomorrow!
